Sorren
& Adrienne.

Two dresses, a mate standing up as celebrant, and a first dance sung live by Sorren's sister. Sorren and Adrienne got married at Quat Quatta on a summer evening and the whole thing felt exactly like them.

A 6pm ceremony changes everything.

As a Quat Quatta wedding videographer you learn pretty quickly that this place has a look most venues can't touch. Heritage cream walls, marble steps, that black and white checkerboard tile, and palms everywhere. It's a Melbourne venue that doesn't feel like Melbourne.

Sorren and Adrienne got ready separately, Sorren at an Airbnb in Brighton and Adrienne at home in Black Rock, then came together at Quat Quatta for a 6pm ceremony. That start time matters. By the time they were standing in front of everyone the light had gone soft and low, and it stayed that way through portraits. You can't buy that. You just have to book the right hour.

Two dresses, both Kyha

Sorren wore a halterneck cowl with a draped back. Adrienne wore an off-shoulder A-line with a full train. Both from Kyha Studios, both in that heavy white satin that holds its shape and catches every bit of available light.

Standing next to each other they worked. Two completely different silhouettes that clearly belonged at the same wedding. Everything Flowers handled the florals, and Courtney kept them white on white with trailing amaranthus, so nothing competed with the dresses.

"White on white, checkerboard tile, palms and marble. Some venues you have to work at. This one just hands it to you."

Alex married them

Their friend Alex was the celebrant, and that changes the whole feel of a ceremony. There's no getting around it. When the person marrying you already knows the stories, the ceremony stops sounding like a script and starts sounding like someone talking about two people they love.

Sorren and Adrienne each had a four person bridal party, so there were eight people up there with them, all of whom had watched this relationship happen. The reactions in that ceremony footage are the real thing.

The team behind the day

Sash at Collections Photography was shooting, which made for a slightly confusing day on the radio with two of us answering to the same name. Kristina Letsas from Blowwaves did hair and Annalise did makeup, and both dresses got looks that suited them rather than matching for the sake of it.

Josh from Married to the Groove ran the reception. Then came the first dance, and instead of a track they had Sorren's sister Cassie Henderson sing it live. Having your sister sing your first dance is a different thing entirely to pressing play. The room knew it too.

Cream, marble
and palm green.

Quat Quatta does the work before anyone arrives. Heritage cream against deep palm green, black and white tile underfoot, and two white satin dresses in the middle of it. Nothing needed adding.

What a Quat Quatta wedding videographer looks for.

Light, first. A 6pm ceremony in summer means the whole back half of the day sits in good light, so the ceremony, the portraits and the early reception all cut together without a jarring shift in tone.

Then the room. Quat Quatta gives you architecture in every wide shot, which means you're never scrambling for a frame that holds. The marble steps, the tiled verandah, the palms. All of it does something on camera before anyone moves.

But the thing that actually carries this film is Alex. A friend running a ceremony brings out reactions a professional celebrant rarely gets, because the room is listening differently. People laugh harder and they get quieter faster. That range is what an edit needs.

And then the first dance. Sorren's sister on live vocals, two people who'd waited for the day, eight bridal party members watching. That's the closing beat of the film and it didn't need any help from me.

This one sat on the shelf longer than it should have. Glad it's finally up.

What a team.
What a day.

A venue that needs nothing, a celebrant who knew them, and a sister on vocals. Sorren and Adrienne just got to be in it.
